Circular Economy and Waste Management

Minimising Waste. Maximising Resource Efficiency.

Our approach to waste management is grounded in circular economy principles, with a strong focus on waste avoidance, resource efficiency, and responsible recovery. We embed circularity into operations and supply chains to minimise landfill disposal while unlocking value from by-products and secondary materials. Through robust governance, systematic waste audits, and collaboration with authorised partners, we strengthen closed-loop material flows across businesses. These efforts support regulatory compliance, cost optimisation, and long-term resource sustainability.

Our Contributions

Prioritising the avoid, reduce, reuse, and recycle hierarchy across operations
Strengthening hazardous and non-hazardous waste governance
Maximising waste diversion from landfill through recovery and co-processing
Converting industrial by-products into value added secondary resources
Advancing zero-waste-to-landfill certifications at operational sites

Waste Disposal Techniques

Plastic waste is recycled by various businesses through Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) installed at Mumbai and Ahmedabad airports.

E-Waste is recycled/returned to the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for repair, refurbishment, or materials recovery.

Construction and demolition waste is reused as aggregate in new concrete for paving blocks and the construction of roads.

Other non-hazardous waste disposal mainly includes overburden from our mining operations repurposed for backfilling, thereby facilitating mine reclamation efforts.

Hazardous waste is safely collected and sent to authorised vendors for recycling or disposal.

India’s First Zero-Waste-to-Landfill Airport

Thiruvananthapuram International Airport has become India’s first airport with zero-waste-to-landfill certification, following a comprehensive 5R based waste management approach. Strong segregation and recovery systems have enabled the airport to divert 99% of waste from landfill, setting a replicable benchmark for circular airport operations.

Utilisation of Copper Slag

At Kutch Copper Limited, copper slag generated during smelting is utilised in cement, construction, and infrastructure applications. This initiative eliminates landfill disposal, conserves natural resources, and demonstrates large-scale waste-to-wealth transformation in the metals sector.
